Sick or not sick? After spending over a year in detention for alleged sexual penetration, opposition politician Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray was Tuesday, 7 September granted bail of Le 100 million. He is accused of having an affair with a teenage girl in the diamond rich district of Kono. In a radio interview before his arrest in 2020, the former presidential hopeful denied the allegation calling it “a political witch hunt”. But is his detention a warning to all men to zip up?
The Spokesperson for the Judiciary, Elkass Sannoh last evening confirmed to this medium that the Hon. Justice Samuel O. Taylor has granted bail to Kamarainba Mansaray and his accomplice Marion Arouni, who are before the High Court of Sierra Leone on allegations of conspiracy and sexual penetration of a minor.
According to Sannoh, the lead Counsel Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai made his application for bail for both accused persons. He said the 1st accused is sick and that they have received the medical report as ordered by the Judge. He explained that Lawyer Abdulai adopted all the bail application for the 2nd accused. He continued that the State Prosecutor Madam Umu Sumaray did not object to the bail. He said Justice Samuel O.Taylor put both accused to one hundred million Leones, two sureties, one of the sureties should have a house in the Western area and they should be ordinary residents in Freetown. The accused should submit their traveling documents to the Master and registrar and the 2nd accused should visit the office of the Master twice in a week. The matter was adjourned to Tuesday,13 September 2021
