Leone Stars 45-man delegation on 24 Match departed for Lesotho to honour their 5th match in the 2022 African Nation Cup Qualifiers on Saturday. Leone Stars have already played four matches in the group stages, having 3 points, sitting in third position after 3 draws and 1 defeat. Nigeria is currently top of the group with 8 points, followed by Benin with 7 points.

It’s a crucial tie for Sierra Leone and a must win game, as the team needs a maximum point in it two remaining matches and hope that Benin does not win when they meet Nigeria.

On 23rd March 2021, after the final training of the national team at the Siaka Steven Stadium, the SLFA President Madam Isha Johansen had a short meeting with the players. She appealed to them to go and play for their country by putting up their best performance to win the match and come home with all three points. “I will not be in Lesotho to physically witness the match but my spirit will be with you,” she said.

In response, the Head Coach for the National Team John Keister expressed thanks to the SLFA President for visiting their final training and assured Madam Isha Johansen that he will do all his best to win the match and come home with the three points.
